Changemakers at Work

Changemakers at Work grants are small grants that make a big difference in Reno County Communities. Funds for these $5,000 maximum grants come from the Fund for Reno County, and support projects that:

  • Bring people together and provide opportunities for positive social interaction and benefit through volunteer work or community-building efforts.
  • Connect people to the environment around them in new ways to increase community pride and identity.
  • Build on our communities’ assets and unique qualities through placemaking.

The 2024 grant cycle is now open. To review materials or to apply for a grant via GLM, click on the links below. Deadline to submit proposals is 11:59 p.m. Sept. 27.

Community groups who do not have a 501(c)(3) status may apply for grants if another tax-exempt organization acts as a fiscal sponsor. Review the “Fiscal Sponsor Information” section in the GLM application form.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

Fund for Reno County

The Fund for Reno County is the unrestricted grantmaking fund that allows Hutchinson Community Foundation to address the ever-changing needs of the community. The year-round application cycle allows Foundation representatives—board members, community representatives, and staff—to regularly hear directly from the community about innovative solutions and critical needs in our communities and select programs to support.

Some of the grants are small but mighty, while others are large and far-reaching. Each represents an innovative approach or collaboration, a new efficiency for an established organization, a critical need that requires “just in time” funding, or an opportunity that needs just a bit of local support to leverage great resources for our community.

The Strategic Impact Committee accepts proposals year-round, with 2024 application deadlines and award notifications on the following dates:

Community Health Improvement

Community Health Improvement Grants aim to support the health and well-being of Reno County residents by creating conditions that lead to healthy lifestyles. Through a partnership between Hutchinson Community Foundation, Hutchinson Regional Medical Foundation, and United Way of Reno County, these grants seek to help Reno County communities and partners execute the identified strategies and make progress toward achieving the goals and anticipated outcomes set forth in the 2023 Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), based on the most recent Community Health Assessment (CHA).

A total of $30,000 is available each year through 2025. Awards are expected to typically range from $1,000 to $10,000 for single or multi-year grants. Awards are decided by a joint selection committee of board members from the three funding partners

The Youth Philanthropy Council (YPC) is a youth-led grantmaking program designed to involve Reno County students in philanthropy. YPC members from high schools across the county are recruited to:

  • Identify and prioritize needs for youth in our community
  • Establish criteria for the selection of youth-focused grant proposals
  • Review grant proposals
  • Make final decisions on which proposals to fund
  • Award the grants

Each spring the YPC distributes approximately $5,000 in grants which come from the Richard W. Dillon Memorial Fund for Youth Philanthropy. The Dillon family established the fund to honor Dick Dillon as a tribute to the extensive philanthropic work he was responsible for in the Hutchinson and Reno County communities.
