Community Connect Luncheon: On Resilience and Childhood Trauma

October 12, 2017 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

Where: First National Center, 7th floor | 1 N. Main St. Hutchinson, KS 67501

Contact: Kari Mailloux | (620) 663-5293

In an effort to inspire innovative leadership and cultivate conversations about philanthropy, Hutchinson Community Foundation hosts a Community Connect Luncheon series for nonprofit staff and board members, as well as interested members of the larger community. A light lunch will be provided. Please RSVP in advance.

At this special luncheon on October 12 from 11:30-1:00, we will explore the challenge of building resilience in children experiencing trauma and discuss how our organizations and we as individuals can contribute to helping a child overcome their adverse childhood experiences.

Jim Sporleder, a retired principal of Lincoln High School in Walla Walla, Washington, will lead the conversation. Under Jim’s leadership, Lincoln High School became a “Trauma Informed” school, gaining national attention due to a dramatic drop in out of school suspensions, increased graduation rates, and the number of students going on to post-secondary education. These dramatic changes were captured in the documentary, Paper Tigers, released in 2015. Jim will be in Hutchinson to work with Hutchinson USD 308 on becoming trauma informed schools, and at the Luncheon he will help us explore how the community can reinforce the schools’ approach.

We have reached capacity for the luncheon, but please email Kari Mailloux at kari@hutchcf.org if you would like to be added to the waitlist.
