Critical Functions: A Webinar Series for Nonprofit Leaders

May 10, 2018 - May 24, 2018

Free

As part of Hutchinson Community Foundation’s nonprofit capacity building initiative, we continually look for opportunities to offer professional development opportunities that will enhance Reno County organizations’ core skills and abilities to build organizational effectiveness and sustainability.

In a three-part series, we will explore “Critical Functions: A Webinar Series for Nonprofit Leaders” from the Stanford Social Innovation Review. We will watch a pre-recorded 90-minute webinar and then engage in a conversation about our local perspectives on the topic for peer learning and the exchange of ideas.

Staff of Reno County nonprofits are welcome to register for one or more events in the series. Participants will also receive the webinar link and materials to share with their staff and boards afterward. If you cannot attend a session but would like to receive the webinar link and materials to review on your own, please contact Kari Mailloux at kari@hutchcf.org.

See descriptions of each installment of the series below and then complete the registration form.

Fundraising for Social Change: Tips, Tools & Tactics

When: 1-3 p.m. May 10

Where: Hutchinson Community Foundation Training Room, First National Center fifth floor, 1 N. Main St., Hutchinson

Individuals make up more than 80 percent of all nonprofit revenue, yet many organizations struggle to tap this critical base of support. If you are interested in diversifying your funding base and securing more stable, sizable support from individuals, then this webinar is for you. The expert speakers will share a range of tactics and proven strategies for acquiring new donors, cultivating relationships to grow support over time, and stewarding key relationships.

Ultimately, the program will provide a clear overview of the best ways to build, maintain, and expand an individual donor program. It will begin by focusing on the case statement, and then share best practices for building a large base of individual donors who can grow into major donors and lifelong supporters.

Speakers for this session include the former executive director of the Craigslist Foundation and best-selling author of “Nonprofit Fundraising 101,” Darian Rodriguez Heyman, and renowned consultant, public speaker, and best-selling author of “Fundraising for Social Change” (now in its seventh edition), Kim Klein.

Maximizing Board Engagement: Tips, Tools & Tactics

When: 1-3 p.m. May 17

Where: Hutchinson Community Foundation Training Room, First National Center fifth floor, 1 N. Main St., Hutchinson

This session will help you maximize engagement by your board of directors and ensure their full participation in the key aspects of their philanthropic activities for your organization: giving, asking, joining, and serving.

This highly practical workshop will feature concrete tips and tools designed to help increase your fundraising success by enabling your board to tap into their confidence and passion. Learn how to engage your board in a process that clarifies exactly what’s expected of each member — one that creates consensus around board priorities and transforms board involvement. Using Kay Sprinkel Grace’s “AAA” model, we will explore the power of board satisfaction and how it manifests in increased giving and outreach to others. We will also cover the critical importance of thinking of your board members and other loyal donor-investors as partners in your impact and work and share tools for helping to integrate this philosophy successfully. Finally, we will provide tips and strategies for recruiting and evaluating board members to ensure that they understand their role in donor development and fundraising, whether as an ambassador, an advocate, and/or an asker.

Speakers for this session include Darian Rodriguez Heyman and fundraising guru, consultant, public speaker, and best-selling author of “Beyond Fund Raising” and “The AAA Way to Fundraising Success,” Kay Sprinkel Grace.

Measurement and Analysis: The Key to Fundraising and Program Performance

When: 1-3 p.m. May 24

Where: Hutchinson Community Foundation Training Room, First National Center fifth floor, 1 N. Main St., Hutchinson

Nonprofit fundraising relies heavily on your ability to both make and convey impact. Join us for a dynamic workshop designed to help you learn the ins and outs of program and fundraising measurement and analysis, starting with how to develop a measurement and evaluation plan, and then looking at how to integrate it into your overarching strategic plan. From there we’ll share tips and tools for fostering collaboration to promote effective analysis and review important distinctions between outputs and outcomes. You will also learn how to benchmark your performance and impact against others in your field and create an organizational dashboard to track success against a series of “key performance indicators” that enable your staff, board, and key advisors to track your programmatic and operational health.

Join us and learn how to create a culture in your organization that values collecting both data and success stories, enabling you to translate your theory of change into practical metrics that can be monitored and optimized to fuel your performance and impact.
