Hutch CF COO to retire in spring

Hutchinson Community Foundation Chief Operating Officer Dell Marie Shanahan Swearer will retire in the spring.

Dell Marie joined the foundation in 2019. Among her duties as COO are regulatory compliance, fund administration, gift stewardship, and oversight of impact investments and operations staff.

During her tenure at the community foundation, Dell Marie brought her knowledge and experience to several initiatives that have enhanced the organization’s sophistication. She led major software upgrades and the resumption of in-house back-office functions and oversaw the process of hiring the foundation’s first portfolio investment manager. She was responsible for helping develop and execute the foundation’s impact investment program procedures, and she fortified numerous policies and fund agreements. Hutch CF’s professional advisor network was also strengthened under her leadership.

“We hired Dell Marie because of her deep relationships with people in our community, her legal and trust administration skillsets, and her knowledge of the community foundation and our field,” said President & CEO Aubrey Abbott Patterson. “Having Dell on staff for six years helped us put into place the necessary systems that will allow the Community Foundation to continue fulfilling the promises we’re making to act as stewards of donors’ charitable legacies.”

Before she joined Hutch CF, Dell Marie spent 26 years in banking: 13 years as vice president and private client advisor at Commerce Trust Company, a division of Commerce Bank, and 13 years as vice president and trust officer at First National Bank of Hutchinson.

Prior to her banking career, she was an associate attorney at Dennis O. Smith, Chtd. and a partner at Branine, Chalfant & Hill, both of Hutchinson.

She is a graduate of Southwestern College and the University of Kansas School of Law.

Her last day will be April 4.

A search for an operations director will begin in late January.
