Grants at Work: Pretty Prairie Community Food Pantry

The Pretty Prairie Community Food Pantry Building was a project to build a permanent, accessible facility with the goal of reducing food insecurity and providing a clean and efficient building that reflects the community’s care for the less fortunate. A new building was constructed to strengthen the local community by ensuring all residents, regardless of age, ability, or socioeconomic status have access to food assistance and community resources. Four local churches contributed volunteer hours and dollars. The City of Pretty Prairie donated a parcel of land, water, and sewer hookup. Individuals and local groups donated funds and volunteered to finish the building, with local contractors providing services at a reduced cost. It truly was a community effort.

Through the Fund for Reno County, Hutch CF was pleased to provide $25,000 for the Pretty Prairie Community Food Pantry Building through our Community & Economic Development grant program as part of the 2025 Impact Cycle 2. The food pantry project cannot solve the root problem of food insecurity, but it can relieve the stress food insecurity creates for families they serve by providing healthy food on a regular schedule.
