POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Program Officer is responsible for overseeing the implementation and evaluation of grantmaking strategies and programs that advance the foundation’s mission. This includes managing the foundation’s discretionary grant portfolio, collaborating with community stakeholders, providing technical assistance, convening grantees and partners, and ensuring that all programs align with strategic priorities. The Program Officer will also play a key role in fostering relationships with donors, nonprofit partners, and other key community organizations. This position reports to the Director of Strategy.

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES

Grantmaking & Programs

  • Collaborate with the Director of Strategy to develop and refine the foundation’s programmatic & grantmaking strategies, ensuring that they align with both community needs and organizational priorities.
  • Lead the foundation’s grantmaking process, including managing the application and review processes and making funding recommendations.
  • Manage a portfolio of active grants, conduct due diligence, and monitor, evaluate and document the progress and performance of funded projects to ensure compliance with foundation guidelines and expectations.
  • Provide technical assistance to grant applicants and grantees, helping them navigate the application process and achieve program outcomes.
  • Provide direction, leadership, training, and staffing to grantmaking committees.
  • Identify potential projects to be highlighted in newsletter articles, press releases, website news and social media and make routine posts on social media channels as outlined in the annual editorial calendar.

Program Management

  • Collaborate with the Director of Strategy to develop and implement core and strategic programs and initiatives.
  • Maintain calendar of all program activities and reporting.
  • Other special projects or initiatives as assigned.  

Donor Services & Development 

  • Cultivate relationships between the Community Foundation, current donors, prospective donors and agencies in the community.
  • Collaborate with communications and development staff to create meaningful donor engagement and stewardship opportunities.
  • Share information about community needs and opportunities so that donors can align their giving accordingly.

Staff Leadership

  • Participate in Hutch CF staff meetings.
  • Assist with event planning and execution.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressively more responsible experience in philanthropy, nonprofit sector or similar fields.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, handling multiple projects at once, with a high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication with strong writing skills.
  • Strong customer service/donor development skills.
  • Highly organized and self-motivated; ability to collaborate with co-workers, foundation peers and community leaders
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and tact with highly sensitive personal and financial information.
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills among diverse constituent groups.
  • Experience in leading, facilitating, and mobilizing community coalitions.
  • Demonstrated analytical and evaluative skills.
  • Well-developed technology proficiency (including Microsoft Suite, Adobe and social media), and the ability to self-support for basic computer and network problems.
  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate with others in a professional and appropriate manner while maintaining a healthy sense of humor.
  • Passion for community philanthropy and nonprofit organizations.
  • Great love of Reno County with a strong desire to make it greater.

PAY & BENEFITS

Hutchinson Community Foundation offers competitive pay and benefits, including paid health and dental insurance for full-time employees, retirement plan, personal time off (PTO), nine paid holidays, six weeks paid parental leave, and paid bereavement leave. The annual pay range for this position begins at $60,000 and will be commensurate with experience.
