2017 Youth Philanthropy Council Grants Announced

The Youth Philanthropy Council of the Hutchinson Community Foundation announced $3,000 in grants from the Richard W. Dillon Memorial Fund for Youth Philanthropy at an awards ceremony on March 5 at Dillon Nature Center.

The Youth Philanthropy Council (YPC) is a youth-led grant making program designed to involve Reno County students in philanthropy: the practice of giving money, time, and talents to help make life better for other people. This year’s YPC is comprised of 14 high school students from across the county. These youth have met for the last four months to discuss local issues of concern to youth, learn about grantmaking, and award grants to youth-serving organizations. The Dillon family established the fund for this program and the grants it approves to honor Dick Dillon for his extensive philanthropic work in our community.

The following grants were awarded for 2017:

Buhler High School Senior Class – $600 Caring for Oncology Patients

Kansas Food Bank – $650 – Food 4 Kids Reno County

Hutchinson’s Historic Fox Theatre – $750  – “By the Bus” Arts in Education Program

Prairie Independent Living Resource Center – $250 – S.T.E.E.R. Your Life

Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Center – $500 – Safe Shelter House Refresh

Trinity Catholic Key Club – $250 – Blankets for Children in Local Hospitals
