For some time, we have been hearing frustration from nonprofit staff across Reno County about a lack of knowledge and engagement from some of their board members. Though the Community Foundation has hosted occasional workshops aimed at board governance and development, it is difficult to reach a critical mass of understanding and involvement, particularly when boards are always changing. Therefore, we are interested in how we can build a board member experience into the system of services in Reno County. We are particularly interested in educating new board members about the role and responsibilities of board service, adaptive leadership, and systems thinking.
Using a design thinking and systems thinking approach, we invite interested nonprofit staff, board members, or volunteers to collaborate with us on creating this experience. We will conduct an initial meeting to get to know one another and discuss the design process on Friday, Aug. 16, from 9 to 10 a.m. in Hutch CF’s Collaboration Corner. This is a short-term team that will likely meet five to six times over the span of several months to complete the process of designing the board member experience we desire.
