SUMMARY:Nonprofit Strength Workshop: Leading When Everything Feels Like Too Much
DESCRIPTION:  \nHutchinson Community Foundation is pleased to invite staff and board members of community-based organizations serving Reno County to Leading When Everything Feels Like Too Much\, part of our Nonprofit Strength Initiative. The workshop will be presented by Dale Matherly\, Leadership Coach from Matherly Leadership Solutions. \nLeading a nonprofit today can feel heavier than it once did. Many leaders are navigating rising community needs\, increased polarization\, staff fatigue\, funding uncertainty\, and a persistent sense of urgency. These pressures don’t stay “out there” — they filter into organizations\, shape decision-making\, and often leave leaders carrying more anxiety than they realize. This interactive workshop explores the concept of societal emotional process — how anxiety in the larger world moves into communities and organizations — and how leaders can respond in ways that create steadiness rather than reactivity. Participants will gain language for what they are experiencing\, clarity about how anxiety impacts leadership\, and practical tools for leading thoughtfully in uncertain and rapidly changing environments. \nThrough guided reflection\, small-group dialogue\, and collaborative conversation using models such as World Café\, participants will connect with fellow nonprofit leaders\, share experiences\, and explore how calm\, grounded leadership can foster resilience and hope. This session is designed to leave leaders feeling less alone\, more centered\, and better equipped to navigate complexity without absorbing the pressure around them. Rather than offering quick fixes\, the experience invites leaders to slow down\, think clearly\, and lead in ways that strengthen both their organizations and the broader Reno County community. \nAdvance registration is required by July 10\, for space is limited. We encourage multiple representatives from each organization to come together for shared learning. \nKey Takeaways\n\nIncreased clarity about how anxiety impacts leadership\nPractical tools for leading thoughtfully and in uncertain and rapidly changing times\nGuidance on navigating complexity without absorbing pressure\nNew connections with peers working to strengthen Reno County\n\nAbout Dale Matherly\nAs a leadership coach\, Dale also holds certificates in Teach Leadership from Kansas Leadership Center\, and as an Appreciative Inquiry Facilitator from the Center for Appreciative Inquiry. He is committed to helping institutions\, organizations\, and individuals thrive as they work to achieve their purpose and fulfill their aspirations. For over three decades\, Dale has led faith communities of all sizes in building community\, clarifying purpose\, retiring debt\, reorganizing governance structures\, and developing leaders who transform their communities. Additionally\, he has facilitated work with Community Action of Greater Indianapolis\, Westfield Washington School District\, Circles of Greater Topeka\, Morningside University\, local service organizations\, and numerous congregations. SUMMARY:Magnify 2026
DESCRIPTION:As part of our Nonprofit Strength Initiative\, Hutchinson Community Foundation invites applications from Reno County nonprofit organizations to Magnify\, a two-day workshop presented by NonprofitGO founder and Executive Director\, Vickie Kline. \nVickie has been working in the nonprofit community for over 30 years\, and for 16 of those years she served as finance director for Music Theatre Wichita. In 2018\, Vickie created NonprofitGO (NPGO) with a mission to mentor and educate nonprofit organizations in standard business practices\, helping them to achieve sustainability\, build capacity\, and enhance their quality of community services. To date\, NPGO has served over 200 nonprofits. \nWhen and where is the Magnify two-day workshop?\nThe workshop will take place Wednesday\, November 3 and Thursday\, November 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hutchinson Community Foundation’s Collaboration Corner. \nWhat is Magnify?\nThe two-day Magnify workshop will include information on the fundamentals of managing a nonprofit\, topics essential to sustaining a healthy nonprofit organization\, and program delivery will include both interactive and lecture styles. \n\nMission\, Vision\, Values – Reviewing your organization’s mission\, vision\, and values to determine if they appropriately represent the organization and its work\nUnderstanding Equity – Discussing how equity begins with staff and the board; giving full representation to populations served; an internal look at the organization and the ever-changing equity process\n Financial Reports – An overview of standard financial reports\, such as balance sheet\, income statement\, and budget vs actual–even if you’re not an accountant\, administrative staff should have the ability to read financial reports and know what they mean\nRevenue Streams – The standard revenue streams and how organizations should tap into each for effective fundraising: are you leaving dollars on the table?\n Being Grant Ready – What does it take to be “grant ready” and provide funders with appropriate information to win more awards.\nReviewing Form 990’s – A brief overview of the Form 990\, why it’s important\, and who has responsibility for filing. Learning about the Public Support Test and “tipping.”\nOrganizational and Program Budgeting – How to budget effectively; the differences between organizational and program budgets\, and connections between the two (Guest speaker Ted Kriwiel will talk about appropriate software for nonprofit organizations)\nBoard Governance – How to recruit and retain board members; where to look for new board members\n\nAlso included in the experience: \n\n\n\nQuick Consult with a NonprofitGO staff member – A one-hour consultation is a required element of this learning opportunity. Each participating nonprofit organization will contact Vickie to schedule a time and determine a topic area for the consult. Quick Consults should be completed no later than December 4\, 2026.\nCohort follow-up gathering – Hutchinson Community Foundation will send a scheduling poll to find a time to gather the Magnify learning cohort in January 2027. The purpose of the gathering will be to reconnect and share how each organizations’ learning was implemented\, what successes and challenges they have experienced\, and what feedback they have for Hutch CF regarding past and future professional development opportunities.\n\n\n\nWho should register for Magnify?\nStaff of any Reno County nonprofit organization who believe they would benefit from learning or reviewing the topics covered in Magnify and the knowledge and experiences of others in the learning cohort. This expends to experienced staff who see topic areas worthy of review\, along with areas for potential growth and staff who are new to nonprofit work or a particular organization and would benefit from learning more about both. \nBoard members who seek a better understanding of the knowledge and skills required to sustain a nonprofit\, allowing fulfillment of the organization’s mission. As well as board members who support staff’s continued learning and want to help staff bring new approaches and ideas back to the organization. \nWe ask each organization to send two participants to Magnify and that those participants be available to attend the entirety of the two-day workshop. Participants from an organization can be a combination of staff and board member or two staff members. \nCohort size will be limited to 12 organizations. \nThe deadline to register is October 9\, 2026. \nSee forms below for registration. \nPlease enable JavaScript in your browser to complete this form. Please enable JavaScript in your browser to complete this form.Participant 1Name *FirstLast \n in there or\n \n \n Organization *Role at organization *Email *Phone *AddressAddress Line 1Address Line 2City--- Select state ---AlabamaAlaskaArizonaArkansasCaliforniaColoradoConnecticutDelawareDistrict of ColumbiaFloridaGeorgiaHawaiiIdahoIllinoisIndianaIowaKansasKentuckyLouisianaMaineMarylandMassachusettsMichiganMinnesotaMississippiMissouriMontanaNebraskaNevadaNew HampshireNew JerseyNew MexicoNew YorkNorth CarolinaNorth DakotaOhioOklahomaOregonPennsylvaniaRhode IslandSouth CarolinaSouth DakotaTennesseeTexasUtahVermontVirginiaWashingtonWest VirginiaWisconsinWyomingStateZip CodePursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act\, do you require aids or services? *American Sign Language (ASL) InterpreterAssistive Listening DeviceCaptioningLarge PrintBrailleReserved SeatingNoneOther:Other aid or service not listed above. Please identify any dietary restrictions. *Gluten freeDairy freeVeganVegetarianKosherSeafood allergyNut allergyNoneOther:Other dietary restriction not listed above.Which aspects of "Magnify" most excite or interest you? *Have you worked with NonprofitGO previously?
