Through the Love Where You Live community empowerment initiative, Reno County residents identified blight as one of the top priority areas to address. What tools and support systems exist for communities dealing with these types of properties?

Hutchinson Community Foundation is pleased to host Nonprofit Strength: From Blight to Bright, an in-person workshop, presented by Kansas State University’s Technical Assistance to Brownfields office, the Kansas Department of Commerce, and Kansas Department of Health and Environment from 2 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at The Burt in Hutchinson.

This workshop will cover the topics of:

• What is a Brownfield?
•  Steps for successful redevelopment
• Technical assistance to Brownfields resources
• Kansas Department of Health and Environment Brownfields resources
• Kansas Department of Commerce resources for redevelopment

There will be time dedicated to one-on-one discussions and questions. This workshop was made possible with funding provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

About Presenters

Dr. Martin is the owner and president of CTOR Solutions, a small business providing
assistance to Brownfield communities. She is a partner of the Kansas State University
Technical Assistance to Brownfields (TAB) program and is the TAB contact for MO, KS,
and NE. In addition, she serves as adjunct faculty in the Department of Agronomy at KSU.
Over the past 25 years, Dr. Martin has provided redevelopment assistance specifically to
smaller and rural communities. Dr. Martin holds a master’s degree in geology and a Ph.D.
in hydrogeology.

Kerri Falletti has worked with Kansas Department of Commerce (KDC) since December
2021, where she works directly with communities and organizations to strategize solving
problems, challenges and connecting resources. As the housing programs manager
within the Quality Places Division, she specializes in addressing housing challenges and
utilizing the housing assessment process to identify solutions and priorities. Prior to
joining KDC, Kerri spent nearly 18 years with the Cowley County Economic Development
Partnership, serving as director for 12 years. Her experience includes supporting
